An energetic student leader of PSC-SGO during [the] school year 1989–90 was no other than Fernando “Dong” Batul. Dong is a graduate of AB Political Science. He decided to enrol again and presently, he is taking up Philosophy.

Fernando “Dong” Batul, from The Pioneer Issue Volume 14 No 8, dated June to September 1990 (from Pioneer archives)

He accomplished many things during his incumbency as PSC-SGO President. He was the former president of Catholic Charismatic Youth Ministry. He was also the Provincial President of Assistance Committee-Community Development (SAC-CD). He was a four-year cadet officer of 420th NCMTU. Presently, Dong is a Grand Chancellor of Alpha Sigma Phi, Palawan Chapter; also an active member of Palawan Movement for Educational Advancement (PALMEA), Kapulungan ng Mga Sandigan ng Pilipinas (KASAPI), and a member of the Board of PSC Junior Jaycees and Teatro Iskuwela.

Action on behalf of justice is an absolute requirement of the service of faith.

Dong is a child whom his parents can be proud of. He was awarded as the “Student Leader of the Year (1989–90)” and a recipient of Congressman Ponce de Leon Award on his graduation day. Dong is a flexible person. He leads any kind of organization, whether inside or outside the campus. This pious and friendly person likes honest, responsible, and religious persons. Because Dong is a man of principles, he undoubtedly dislikes people who don’t have principles.

At 21, Dong is a dreamer. He dreams for the revival of Filipino traits and values, the establishment of unfailing and honest government, and the renewal of the term “Malayan Republic,” which is the original concept of the Philippines.

Dong hopes to be an elected government official and a successful businessman someday. He states: “Action on behalf of justice is an absolute requirement of the service of faith.”
